I’m really sentimental. And I’m still on my first kid. Three years ago I faced the worst of my Post-Partum Depression and Anxiety. The only moments I enjoyed that first year with my son were wearing him, swaying back and forth, while singing The Lava Song or Don’t Worry Be Happy.

My son is 3 years old now and I still enjoy wearing him, and he enjoys it too. He can walk, run, jump, and be a lot more curious and brave about exploring than when he was 10 months old, but now and then we can still end up in an environment where it’s either necessary and/or fun to still babywear, er Toddlerwear.

We especially find it necessary when we know we’re going to walk in big crowds for a good while (i.e. Theme Parks, Festivals, sometimes Grocery Stores). I still also wear him if I’m just running in somewhere quickly and he’s still asleep from the car ride. It’s just easier than waking him up for the errand. This little guy still needs his nap and I still need at least an hour break from the constant conversation on the topic of trains from my dear son at least once every 24 hours!

I know a lot of people think wearing a big kid can be strenuous on the body. But it’s just like a pair of jeans. If you find the right one and wear it properly you’re not going to have issues. The more you work up to it, the more your "babywearing muscles" will grow to support your child's ever-increasing weight.  My son has always been on the taller side, and at 38” we can use either a Toddler or Preschool. We use the Toddler Size Baby Carrier if he wants his arms out, Preschool if I know he’s relaxed enough to keep his arms in. It depends on the day and on him.

My husband still likes Toddlerwearing. It’s very casual for us. We’ll go out shopping and put him on one of our backs and he’ll get to see everything we see and feel included. That’s why it’s still nice and why it still means so much to us. We get to be close and share experiences without having to use our arms to carry him! And of course the snuggles, how could I resist them?  Snuggles are the best.

Hug your babies💛 Happy International Babywearing Week!
