FAQ (also see T&C)

How do I purchase a Kinderpack?

We stock new inventory Tuesdays and Fridays (previously only Thursdays) at 12noon CDT/CST.

The list below can help prime you before trying to purchase at one of our stockings. They sell out very fast, with several thousand people trying to buy.  Not all prints are stocked every week.  We usually have a mix of new prints and previously released prints that will stock per week. These are announced and previewed on Facebook and Instagram, as well as on our site with a "Coming Soon" sticker!

  • Get on the "Shop" page of the website a few minutes before stocking time. Refresh the page until the listing appears. Then click on the listing that you want to purchase. Valid URLs will not be revealed before the listings go live. The preview listings under "Coming Soon" will not be the same URL as the live listing, so please do not refresh the "Coming Soon" listing.
  • Select your desired size and try to add to your cart. We no longer have a cart hold so the item isn't yours until you complete payment. Items can be removed from your cart at any time. You may get a screen that says "Inventory Issues" after you have tried to add to your cart. This is due to the enormous amount of customers trying to purchase at the same time. You may refresh that screen to see if you can get it back in your cart.
  • Continue from the shopping cart page through the payment screens, and follow the prompts to finish payment
  • Be sure that your ship to address is correct, as we do not make shipping address changes once orders are placed.

What size Kinderpack should I get?

Kinderpacks come in 4 sizes- infant, standard, toddler, and preschool

  • Infant is suitable for up to 2 yrs: 8-35 lbs/ 22″ and up
  • Standard is suitable for 8 mos-3yrs/ 20lbs-40 lbs/ 28″ and up
  • Toddler is suitable for 18 mos-4 yrs/ 25 lbs-45lbs/ 32″ and up
  • Preschool is suitable for 3-5yrs/ 35lbs-55lbs/ 38″ and up

*All weights are suggested weights and may vary depending on each child. Suggested weights are based on appropriate proportions for the body panel size. Each Kinderpack can safely hold higher weight limits than what is suggested, but comfort may be compromised. Don't be lured by other carriers reporting higher weight limits with smaller body panel sizes. Weight limit is not the same as suggested weight.

2 strap length sizes are available for the parent’s comfort - please refer here for more info

There is much overlap within the sizes. When determining which size to purchase, always size down if your child is on the lower end of a size.  It is important that your child at least meets the recommended height AND weight for the size before using it.  It is very tempting to size up, like you would normally do with baby clothing. Please resist the urge to do so. A well fitting carrier is comfortable for you and baby. An ill fitting carrier is very uncomfortable for you both, and can be dangerous to your baby.  Think it terms of car seats.  It would not be appropriate to buy a car seat that is too large for your child to grow into- it’s the same with baby carriers.

These are not hard and fast rules, of course. You need to take into consideration your child and what your child likes. Does your child fall within the lower range on the toddler size, but like to ride arms out?? Then you probably want the standard. Is your child still under a year? Then the infant size is for you. Do you want a carrier to keep, AND your child is at least 20 lbs? Then a standard may be good for you. For more information about measurements, please refer to the Carrier info link.

Standard/ Standard: $169
Standard/ Plus: $174

Who will make my Kinderpack?

Kindercarry/Melissamade, Inc is owned by husband and wife, Melissa and Mark.  Our in-shop staff includes Angela, Cat, and Ian (Melissa's big brother!), with Jamie as our in house sewist.  Our shipping and inspection manager, Derek is Melissa's younger brother. We love our wonderful customer service manager, Skylar, and Kristina, our social media manager, who both work at home. Our work-at-home sewing contractors consist of 2 husband and wife teams.  Even the KinderKids (Mel's and Mark's kids) pitch in to help. We are a family business and all carriers are made here in Illinois/Missouri within 3 counties!

Do you take custom orders?

Sorry, no we do not do custom orders. We do not accept sent in fabrics, and we do not make wrap conversions.

I have an older Kinderpack that needs PFA's added- will you do that?

Sorry, no we no longer retrofit PFA's. You may want to try a local alterations shop.

How do I launder my Kinderpack?

Spot wash when appropriate. When machine washing, wash with a load of towels.  Always set washer to the largest load size for extra water to dilute darker dyes. Do not dilute detergent.  Do not use non-premium detergents, or soap.  In particular, do not use “Ecos” brand detergent, or other alternative detergents.  Tide is best, or another mainstream brand like All or Gain etc. No bleach. Tumble dry, low temp, until damp.

On occasion, bleeding may occur, even if washing instructions were followed.  Please inspect carrier for bleeding BEFORE putting in the dryer.  Do not place in dryer if bleeding occurs.  Stain treat the spots with Oxiclean spray or Zout, and re-wash.  This will usually take care of it.

No warranty claims will be honored for damage done during washing, due to varied detergents, washing machines, and washing methods.

*Note that we no longer recommend using Shout Color Catchers*

What kinds of fabrics and materials are used?

We currently only use 8 oz 100% brushed cotton canvas for the whole carrier, and cotton prints for the decorative panels. These can be of decorator weight or quilting weight. Your Kinderpack may also have Koolnit, which is a mesh fabric. The foam in the Kinderpack is polyolefin and cushion poly foam. All threads are nylon. All buckles are nylon and acetyl. All webbing is nylon. All snaps are nylon. All components are certified free of lead and other toxins, per CPSIA regulations.  No flame retardants.

What is Koolnit?

Koolnit is a technical mesh fabric that is designed to keep baby cooler. Keep in mind that any carrier is going to be hot in really hot weather, but Koolnit will allow air flow to baby to help in moderately hot weather. Our Koolnit Kinderpacks can be used all year long, but really shine in warmer months. Koolnit is a non stretch small holed medium weight mesh. It is very similar to the mesh that is used on running shoes and mesh caps.

Are Kinderpacks safety tested?

Yes! We are tested to the current US government standards, per the CPSA, CPSIA, and ASTM.  We meet and exceed all standards set forth for infant and child safety, when used according to instructions.  This means that you can know that your Kinderpack is a high quality, safe product for your baby!  We are also proud members of the BCIA, a professional organization of baby carrier manufacturers and retailers, who keep us informed of all new and upcoming compliance issues.  Feel free to ask more questions via email if you need more information.

What is "Seconds Quality"?

"Seconds Quality" means the carrier has a what we like to call a "birthmark", which is some sort of cosmetic-only flaw. These can include skipped or crooked threads in a top stitch, a flaw on the print of the fabric, or any other cosmetic-only issue. These are usually not even noticed by the untrained eye, but our inspectors catch them and deem them as "seconds". None of these compromise safety. We will have dedicated "Seconds Sales" from time to time. Customers are only able to purchase seconds during these sales, we do not sell them via email, etc.

Do you make drooling pads for Kinderpack?

We are not currently making drooling pads.  There are a great number of sellers on Etsy that stock our fabrics in drooling pads that would be happy for your business.  We recommend Teamfoamcutter on Etsy and Facebook!
